Home prescription delivery for practices that prescribe from eClinicalWorks

Many orthopedic, primary care and multi-specialty practices prescribe from eClinicalWorks, and plenty of them treat injured workers and auto-accident patients who struggle to get to a pharmacy. The Prescriptions.plus Home Delivery Program lets your prescribers send those prescriptions to our licensed partner pharmacy, which delivers medication to the patient's door. eClinicalWorks is a product name of its owner, mentioned only to describe your system; no endorsement or affiliation is implied.

Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in eClinicalWorks's e-prescribing. Prescriptions.plus is not affiliated with or endorsed by eClinicalWorks.

Adding our partner pharmacy in eClinicalWorks

Every e-prescription is sent to a pharmacy chosen from an electronic directory of pharmacies. Home-delivery pharmacies are listed there just as retail pharmacies are. Generally, adding one means searching the directory for it and saving it so it's easy to pick next time.

In a multi-specialty group, different departments may have their own habits. An orthopedic team might want the partner pharmacy handy for post-operative prescriptions, while primary care uses it mainly for patients who say they can't drive. Both start from the same saved pharmacy.

Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in eClinicalWorks' e-prescribing and walks the practice through it.

If your practice uses eClinicalWorks for some prescriptions and a separate tool for others, mention it at setup. We connect to most major EMR and e-prescribing systems, and the training team can cover each route your clinicians use.

What our training team does

A full training department helps install it so it doesn't impact your workflow. Expect a short conversation about how prescriptions leave your practice today, followed by a walk-through for the people who handle them.

For groups with several specialties, the team can tailor the walk-through to each department's routine — for example, how the surgery coordinator mentions delivery at the pre-op visit, or how a primary care MA offers it at checkout.

The training team also helps you decide who in the practice owns the setting going forward, so that when a new provider joins, someone knows to show them where the partner pharmacy is saved.

Questions after launch are normal. A provider might ask how to tell a patient what to expect, or a manager might want to extend the option to a new location. The team stays available for both.

  • Review how your departments prescribe
  • Show staff how to find and save the partner pharmacy
  • Tailor guidance by department
  • Support after launch

What stays the same in your workflow

Your clinicians keep their prescribing routine, templates and favourites. The partner pharmacy is simply one more pharmacy they can choose.

The prescriber decides what to prescribe and where to send it, and the prescribing doctor decides refills. Patients who prefer their usual pharmacy keep it.

  • Same templates and prescribing steps
  • Same documentation
  • Delivery is optional for each patient
  • Medication is dispensed by our licensed partner pharmacy

Before your setup call

Pick a coordinator for setup and gather a list of prescribers by department. If someone in your practice manages eClinicalWorks settings, include them in the call.

Enrollment begins with one form; then we send the agreements. You'll need practice details, each prescriber's licence and DEA numbers with copies, and a W-9.

Think, too, about which patients you most want to reach. For an orthopedic group it may be post-surgical patients; for primary care it may be the worker who comes in after a back strain and has no ride home. Sharing that with the training team helps them focus the walk-through.

Patients and refills

When a prescription goes to our partner pharmacy, medication is delivered to the patient's door. A $5 dispensing fee applies, and a delivery fee applies. The patient's adjuster or insurer can tell them whether their claim covers the medication.

The prescribing doctor decides refills; refill requests follow your normal process. Some medications, such as Schedule II controlled substances, may not be available by mail — your partner pharmacy will advise.

It helps to tell patients at the visit that their prescription is going to a delivery pharmacy, so they know to expect contact about their delivery rather than heading to their usual store.

Frequently asked questions

Can eClinicalWorks send prescriptions to a mail-order pharmacy?

Generally yes. Prescriptions can be sent to pharmacies in the e-prescribing directory, and our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in eClinicalWorks' e-prescribing and walks them through it.

Is Prescriptions.plus part of eClinicalWorks?

No. eClinicalWorks is a product name of its owner, used only to describe your system, and no endorsement or affiliation is implied.

Can different departments use it differently?

Yes. Every department selects the same partner pharmacy, and our training team can tailor guidance to each department's routine.

Will our providers' favourites and templates change?

No. Prescribing stays the same; the partner pharmacy is one more choice.

What do we need to enrol?

Practice details, each prescriber's licence and DEA numbers with copies, and a W-9. Fill out one form and we send the agreements.

What do patients pay?

A $5 dispensing fee applies, and a delivery fee applies. Coverage depends on the claim, so patients should ask their adjuster or insurer.
