Prescription home delivery for orthopedic, podiatry and pain practices on ModMed
ModMed's specialty EHRs are widely used in orthopedics, podiatry and pain management — the same specialties that see injured workers in slings, boots and back braces every day. The Prescriptions.plus Home Delivery Program lets your prescribers choose our licensed partner pharmacy in e-prescribing, so medication is delivered to the patient's door. ModMed is a product name of its owner, named here only to describe your system; no endorsement or affiliation is implied.
Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in ModMed's e-prescribing. Prescriptions.plus is not affiliated with or endorsed by ModMed.
Adding our partner pharmacy in ModMed
Specialty EHRs tend to be built around efficient, repeatable visits: the post-op check, the injection follow-up, the fracture recheck. E-prescribing inside them still works the same basic way as anywhere else — the prescription is sent to a pharmacy chosen from an electronic pharmacy directory.
A home-delivery pharmacy sits in that directory alongside retail pharmacies. Adding it generally means searching for our partner pharmacy and saving it so it's ready the next time a patient asks for delivery. Many specialty practices like to keep it among their commonly used pharmacies so it's never more than a moment away during a busy clinic.
Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in ModMed's e-prescribing and walks the practice through it. We don't assume particular screens; the team works from your actual setup.
- E-prescriptions go to pharmacies in the electronic directory
- Home-delivery pharmacies are listed like any other
- Saving the partner pharmacy keeps it easy to reach
- Our training team walks your staff through it
What our training team does
A full training department helps install it so it doesn't impact your workflow. For specialty practices, that usually means fitting the option into moments that already exist: the pre-op visit, the discharge conversation, the injection follow-up.
The team walks clinicians, scribes and MAs through finding and selecting the partner pharmacy, and helps you decide who will remind new staff about it later. If you run more than one specialty on the same system — say, orthopedics and pain under one roof — they can tailor the walk-through to each.
They're available after launch too, for the questions that only come up once you're using it.
What stays the same in your workflow
Your visit templates, order sets and prescribing favourites don't change. When a clinician reaches the pharmacy choice, the partner pharmacy is simply one of the options.
Clinical decisions remain yours. The prescriber decides what to prescribe and where to send it, and the prescribing doctor decides refills. Patients who prefer their usual pharmacy keep using it.
In practice, the clinicians who benefit most are the ones whose patients leave in a cast, a sling or a brace. Offering delivery at that moment saves the patient a stop on the way home that they may not be able to make.
- Same templates and favourites
- Same speed through the visit
- Delivery offered when it helps
- Medication is dispensed by our licensed partner pharmacy
Before your setup call
List your prescribers, including PAs and NPs, and note which locations and specialties they cover. If a scribe or MA usually handles the pharmacy selection, include them in the call — they're the ones who'll use it most.
To enrol, fill out one form and we send the agreements. Have practice details, each prescriber's licence and DEA numbers with copies, and a W-9 ready.
If your surgeons also prescribe from a hospital or surgery-centre system on operating days, mention it. We connect to most major EMR and e-prescribing systems.
Patients and refills
When a prescription goes to our partner pharmacy, medication is delivered to the patient's door — helpful for a patient who's non-weight-bearing after foot surgery or can't sit in a car after a spine procedure. A $5 dispensing fee applies, and a delivery fee applies. The patient's adjuster or insurer can say whether their claim covers the medication.
The prescribing doctor decides refills, and refill requests come through your normal channels. Some medications, such as Schedule II controlled substances, may not be available by mail — your partner pharmacy will advise. Pain and post-surgical practices in particular will want to plan around that.
