Prescription home delivery: what WebPT therapy practices can share with physicians

WebPT is a physical therapy EMR, and physical therapists don't prescribe medication — so there's nothing to set up in WebPT itself. What therapy practices can do is tell the physicians they coordinate with about the Prescriptions.plus Home Delivery Program, which lets prescribers send prescriptions to our licensed partner pharmacy for delivery to the patient's door. WebPT is a product name of its owner, used here only to describe your system; no endorsement or affiliation is implied.

Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in WebPT's e-prescribing. Prescriptions.plus is not affiliated with or endorsed by WebPT.

Adding our partner pharmacy — in the physician's system, not WebPT

Because therapists don't prescribe, the partner pharmacy is added in the prescribing physician's EMR or e-prescribing tool, not in WebPT. The general process there is the same as anywhere: the prescription is sent to a pharmacy chosen from an electronic pharmacy directory, and the partner pharmacy is found and saved so the physician can select it.

For a therapy practice, the role is introduction rather than installation. If you have a handful of orthopedic, sports medicine, occupational medicine or PM&R offices that send you most of your workers' comp and PIP referrals, those are the practices to tell.

Our training team helps the physician practices add our partner pharmacy in their own e-prescribing and walks them through it.

A practical way to start is to raise it at your next routine conversation with a referral partner — the same calls you already have about plan-of-care updates or progress notes. A short explanation is usually enough; the physician practice can then contact us directly.

What our training team does

For the physician practices that join, a full training department helps install it so it doesn't impact their workflow. The team confirms which system the physicians prescribe from and walks their staff through saving and selecting the partner pharmacy.

For your therapy practice, the team can explain the program so you can describe it accurately to referral partners, and answer questions about what patients should expect. Nothing needs to change in WebPT.

  • Setup happens in the physician's system
  • Your therapy EMR stays untouched
  • The team can brief your practice so you can explain it
  • Physicians get hands-on setup help

What stays the same in your workflow

Your evaluations, plans of care, documentation and billing in WebPT don't change. Therapists don't recommend or adjust medication; that stays with the physician.

What you can add is attention to practical barriers. Patients often tell their therapist that they couldn't get to a pharmacy or that standing at the counter hurt. Noting that in your communication back to the referring physician gives them what they need to decide whether delivery would help. The prescribing doctor decides refills and everything else about the prescription.

  • No change to WebPT documentation
  • No medication advice from therapists
  • Share practical barriers with the physician
  • Medication is dispensed by our licensed partner pharmacy

Before your setup call — or your referral conversation

If you're introducing the program to a physician practice, it helps to know what they'll need. Enrollment is one form, after which we send the agreements. Physicians will need practice details, each prescriber's licence and DEA numbers with copies, and a W-9.

We connect to most major EMR and e-prescribing systems, so most physician practices can be set up on the system they already use.

If your therapy practice is part of a larger group that employs physicians, those physicians can enrol directly.

Patients and refills

For patients, delivery means one less trip on top of several therapy sessions a week. When the physician sends a prescription to our partner pharmacy, medication is delivered to the patient's door. A $5 dispensing fee applies, and a delivery fee applies; whether a claim covers the medication is for the patient's adjuster or insurer to say.

The prescribing doctor decides refills. Some medications, such as Schedule II controlled substances, may not be available by mail — your partner pharmacy will advise. If a patient tells you they've run out, the right step is to point them back to their prescriber.
