Prescription home delivery for small practices on Practice Fusion
Practice Fusion is a cloud EHR used by many smaller and independent practices — the kind of office where the physician, one or two MAs and a front-desk lead do everything. If you see injured workers or auto-accident patients, the Prescriptions.plus Home Delivery Program gives them another way to get their medication: your prescribers choose our licensed partner pharmacy, and medication is delivered to the patient's door. Practice Fusion is a product name of its owner, used here only to describe your system; no endorsement or affiliation is implied.
Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in Practice Fusion's e-prescribing. Prescriptions.plus is not affiliated with or endorsed by Practice Fusion.
Adding our partner pharmacy in Practice Fusion
In a small practice there's rarely an IT department. The person who sets up pharmacies is usually the same person who answers the phone or rooms patients. The good news is that the general process is simple: e-prescriptions go to pharmacies in an electronic directory, home-delivery pharmacies are listed there, and adding one means searching for it and saving it.
Once saved, it can be selected for a patient whenever they want delivery, just like choosing the pharmacy around the corner.
Our training team helps practices add our partner pharmacy in Practice Fusion's e-prescribing and walks the practice through it, so nobody has to figure it out between patients.
If your practice already keeps a short list of pharmacies your patients use most, the partner pharmacy can join that list. The training team will show you how that generally works for your account.
What our training team does
A full training department helps install it so it doesn't impact your workflow. For a small office, that usually means one short session with the doctor and whoever handles prescriptions, scheduled around your clinic hours.
The team shows how to find and save the partner pharmacy, how to select it for a patient, and how to explain delivery in a sentence or two at checkout. If you hire someone new later, they can help bring that person up to speed.
- Short session scheduled around your clinic
- Find, save and select the partner pharmacy
- Simple wording to explain delivery to patients
- Help for new staff later
What stays the same in your workflow
Everything about how you prescribe stays the same. You choose the medication, write the instructions, and pick a pharmacy — the partner pharmacy is now one of the choices.
Small practices often know their patients well. You'll know who lives alone, who has no car, and who was hurt badly enough that a trip to the pharmacy is a real ordeal. You decide when delivery makes sense. The prescriber decides what to prescribe and where to send it, and the prescribing doctor decides refills.
- Same prescribing steps
- You choose when to offer delivery
- Patients may keep their usual pharmacy
- Medication is dispensed by our licensed partner pharmacy
Before your setup call
Decide who will join the session — usually the prescriber plus the staff member who most often sends prescriptions. Choose a time that doesn't clash with your busiest clinic hours.
To enrol, fill out one form and we send the agreements. Have practice details, each prescriber's licence and DEA numbers with copies, and a W-9 ready. For a solo practice, that's often a single licence and DEA registration.
It's also worth noting which patients you have in mind. If most of your injured-worker patients come from a particular local employer or industry, that context helps the training team suggest when and how to mention delivery.
Patients and refills
Once a prescription is sent to our partner pharmacy, medication is delivered to the patient's door. A $5 dispensing fee applies, and a delivery fee applies. The patient's adjuster or insurer can tell them whether their claim or policy covers the medication.
The prescribing doctor decides refills, and requests reach you the same way they do now. Some medications, such as Schedule II controlled substances, may not be available by mail — your partner pharmacy will advise.
A quick word at checkout — your prescription is going to a pharmacy that delivers to your door — saves the patient a wasted trip and a confused phone call.
